Erik Kins – Director of Innovation, Allscripts ™

The exciting new innovation from Allscripts-Misys Healthcare Solutions, Inc. is CAKE Network technology; which is discussed at the Allscripts Client Experience (ACE 09) with Dr. Eric Fishman. By connecting all Allscripts electronic medical records customers in a single data sharing environment, regardless of what Allscripts electronic medical software product the physician or practice is using, bringing power to the health information technology (HIT) industry. The connectivity will include messaging of any sort, in electronic format. The Allscripts CAKE Network connects all physician practices, nurses, administrative staff, and other users, no matter what Allscripts healthcare software product they are using. The following products are supported: Allscripts Professional EHR (electronic health record); Professional PM (practice management) system; Enterprise EHR; Enterprise PM system; MyWay EMR (electronic medical record), including Vision & Tiger products; Allscripts ePrescribing. Using UAI, a command language used to talk to electronic devices, including mobile devices, CAKE enables the connection to a central electronic database, further connecting to a central server. Today, the CAKE technology can pass 5 parameters about a patient, pinging out to the network for electronic patient record information in real time. Allscripts CAKE Network is still in the early stages of development. Kins recognizes that Integrating Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) is the end goal of the project.
